mission

To impact the next generation through worship concerts and resources

Above the Noise is a worship concert for the next generation by the next generation.  Using events and music resources we will spread the fame of Jesus throughout the world.

how it began

I remember sitting with Steve and Bo in their Durango after lunch one day saying “How do you guys feel about doing a live worship CD?”  This must have been late 2003 or something like that.  Immediately something seemed to spark in all of us, like something was about to happen.  What came about after that were numerous conversations that began with “What if…”  I guess that’s what dreamers begin their conversations with.  We prayed, we planned and prepared and felt like God was moving us to begin with events called “Above the Noise”.

On April 4th, 2004 (04.04.04) people gathered together for the first Above the Noise worship concert.  Over 400 people came together to worship God in an atmosphere that was loud and lit up!  We saw many people impacted and plugged in to church. In June 2004 we held our second ATN event and saw even more people experience God’s power through worship.

We’ve now put on 4 Above the Noise events and each one has taken on it’s own creative identity.  We’ve used lights, video clips, break dancers, and even different venues.  Each event was different but each one did exactly what we envisioned, each one made God more famous in our area.

During the process of these events, we still saw the dream of a CD project sitting on the shelf.  Gradually songs were being written by members of the band that just seemed to click.  Now it feels like its God’s time to do the project.  A live CD project is a dream that God placed in our hearts from the beginning and we feel like now is the time that God wants to release it.

how we got the name

One day I was reading from Luke 18 where Jesus is passing by a blind man named Bartimaeus on his way to Jericho. This blind man heard the ruckus of the crowd that was following Jesus and asked what was happening.  Once he heard it was Jesus he stands up and shouts out for Jesus saying “Jesus, Son of David have mercy on me!”  The crowds around him told him to be quiet, but it says “he only shouted louder!” It goes on to say that he received his sight (his miracle) because he raised his voice in faith.  God wants people to see him as he really is (it doesn’t even take actual sight!), and respond with faith in their hearts.

Young people hear a lot of noise.  From MTV to secular radio, they are heavily influenced by the noise of the culture surrounding them.   Our passion is to see people step outside of the noise of the world around them, and shout above it to Jesus!  When we come to the place where the world is silenced then that is where the voice of Jesus can be heard loud and clear saying “Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.”

This is the heartbeat of Above the Noise--that Jesus Christ will be made famous through the events and the music and that many people would come to know him through it.
