  • Music Demonstration Process

Thanks for your interest in Westside Church. We are excited to see what God has in store for you as you consider this ministry.

here’s what the process looks like:

First you will need to fill out an application. You can do this through the link at the bottom of this page or through the packet we give you. Once we have received the application, we will contact you to set up a time for you to demonstrate your musical ability. The music demonstration process should take no longer than 15 minutes.

We ask that vocalists would come prepared to sing two worship songs from our music library. The melody line on one and a harmony on the other. You should know and feel comfortable with these songs. One of us will be singing with you the whole time, and there will be music to accompany you.

Musicians, we would ask that you would come prepared to play through a worship song from our music library. Then depending on the instrument, we will ask that you play what would be considered a “solo”. This can be the same song, or it can something extra that you prepared ahead of time.

Afterwards, you will meet for a short interview with one of our leaders to discuss your application and get to know you better. This usually takes 15 to 30 minutes.

At times there may not be an opening on the teams for New Beginning or New Community. We do, however, have numerous other ministries who are always looking for people to serve musically (i.e. Youth and Children’s ministries, small groups, men and women’s ministries…etc.).

We want you to know that the worship team leaders are not judging you or your desire to worship. We have, however been given the difficult task of deciding who will be best suited for what God has for this ministry, here at Westside Church. We prayerfully consider every person who has a heart for this ministry. We believe that God is faithful to speak, and will show us what He wants.

Thanks again for your interest!

A “Volunteer” versus “One Called of God”

There is a difference between someone who is “just volunteering” and someone who serves because they feel called into God’s Service.
Colossians 4:7

A volunteer looks on rehearsal as one more commitment they’re obligated to fulfill.  One called of God looks upon rehearsal as another opportunity to be used of God.

A volunteer looks upon any constructive criticism with indignation.  One called of God is grateful for feedback because they wants to be the best they can be.

A volunteer’s main source of fulfillment are their talents and abilities.  One called of God knows that fulfillment comes in being used of God.

A volunteer puts in minimum effort.  One called of God puts in maximum effort.

A volunteer complains about all the various things that are bothering them.  One called of God leads a personal campaign to improve that which needs improvement.

A volunteer feels threatened by the talents of others.  One called of God feels secure in God’s direction of their life.

A volunteer harbors jealousy towards others.  One called of God praises God for distributing gifts and talents as He chooses.

A volunteer shrinks back from resolving relational conflict.  One called of God seeks to resolve all relational conflict to preserve the unity of the team.

A volunteer wants to quit at the first sign of adversity and discouragement.  One called of God digs in and perseveres.

A volunteer is oblivious to the needs of his ministry.  One called of God identifies and prays over the needs of their ministry.

A volunteer does no outside practicing or preparation – after all, their just a “volunteer”.  One called of God comes to rehearsals and performances “prayed up” and as prepared as possible.

A volunteer can’t handle being put into situations where they’re going to be stretched. One called of God responds to God’s call with humble dependence on Him.
