Baptism
We believe that water baptism is, first and foremost, obedience to the command of Christ Jesus. He Himself was baptized, setting an example for us to follow (Romans 6:3-4). We believe that every believer should be baptized soon after receiving Jesus Christ, and that baptism is a public statement of an inward decision to follow Christ as Savior and Lord. If you are ready to be baptized, we ask that you read the information below and submit the online registration form, or complete the down loadable form and return it to the church office. Baptisms are held at various times throughout the year and someone will contact you with the next available dates.
- Why Should I Be Baptized? Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20. This scripture is the last instructions to His disciples before Jesus ascended to heaven. Last instructions are oftentimes some of the most important words someone wants to communicate.
- How Should I Be Baptized? "As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water. At that moment, heaven was opened, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on Him." Matthew 3:16. Webster defines bury as "to hide or cover." Only immersion fulfills this definition. The definition of the Greek word used here, baptizo, is to make fully wet. You need to be fully immersed.
- When Should I Be Baptized? "Those who accepted this message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day." Acts 2:41. Water baptism should be the first step of faith you take after being born again. It is a decision of faith on your part to live for Jesus the rest of your life.
