This phrase from God to the people really spoke personally to me today: ‘I acted out of who I was, not by how I felt’. I am not sure what I’m supposed to do with it as yet, but it certainly will become a point of prayer for me. It can become easier sometimes just to let feelings dictate how we act. I want to be able to know myself, and who I am, well enough to act out of who I am more than from how I feel.
Father God, I pray that You will teach me more each day how to act out of who I am more than acting out from how I feel. Feelings can be so deceptive! Thank You for helping me. AMEN
I will wait and trust You, Lord. As I follow You and Your ways, You will be pleased with me. You are my God, and I love You. Psalm 37
Act Out of Who I Am
7 “ ‘At that time I told them, “Get rid of all the vile things that you’ve become addicted to. Don’t make yourselves filthy with the Egyptian no-god idols. I alone am GOD, your God.” 8 “ ‘But they rebelled against me, wouldn’t listen to a word I said. None got rid of the vile things they were addicted to. They held on to the no-gods of Egypt as if for dear life. I seriously considered inflicting my anger on them in force right there in Egypt. 9 Then I thought better of it. I acted out of who I was, not by how I felt. And I acted in a way that would evoke honor, not blasphemy, from the nations around them, nations who had seen me reveal myself by promising to lead my people out of Egypt. 10 And then I did it: I led them out of Egypt into the desert. (Ezekiel 20:7-10 The Message)
