Capable Men

Capable Men

In reading through these chapters in 1 Chronicles, there are so many names of people and the jobs they do! I sometimes wonder, ‘why’, but then I see these verses about Obed-Edom and his family. They certainly have a story to tell about God’s goodness in their lives. But here we see the special characteristic that stands out about them: “They were capable men and strong workers”.

I believe that today, God is still looking for the same attributes in workers for His Kingdom: capable men and women and strong workers.

And David led them with an innocent heart and guided them with skillful hands. (Psalm 78:72 NCV)

Father, I do desire to be one of those You can count as being a capable and a strong worker in Your Kingdom. Please continue Your faithful help and encouragement. I so love You and Your ways! AMEN

The ways of God are without fault. His Words are pure. He will be a shield to all who trust Him. Who is God? Only the Lord. Psalm 18

Capable Men

Jean Stephens

4 Obed-Edom had sons. Shemaiah was his first son, Jehozabad was second, Joah was third, Sacar was fourth, Nethanel was fifth, 5 Ammiel was sixth, Issachar was seventh, and Peullethai was eighth. God blessed Obed-Edom with children. 6 Obed-Edom’s son Shemaiah also had sons. They were leaders in their father’s family because they were capable men. 7 Shemaiah’s sons were Othni, Rephael, Obed, Elzabad, Elihu, and Semakiah. Elihu, and Semakiah were skilled workers. 8 All these were Obed-Edom’s descendants. They and their sons and relatives were capable men and strong workers. Obed-Edom had sixty-two descendants in all. (1 Chronicles 26:4-8 NCV)
