I Can Relate

24/12/2009 by Ken Johnson

Reference(s): John 20:30-31

Jesus provided far more God-revealing signs than are written down in this book. These are written down so you will believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and in the act of believing, have real and eternal life in the way he personally revealed it. John 20:30-31, MSG

Observation

The Apostle John, under the influence of the Holy Spirit, recounted the God-revealing signs that surrounded the life of Jesus.  The Spirit reminded him of what Jesus said and did, and, I believe, directed his writings.

The reason he wrote about the miraculous life of Jesus Christ was so that we (I and others) might believe, and, in the act of believing, experience the very kind of life that Jesus lived – life eternal in quality and everlasting in quantity.  New life.  Good life.  Big life.  Wide life.  Long life.  Deep life.

Application

The miracles in the fourth gospel, the God-revealing signs in the book of John, have accomplished their purpose in my life.  John is the first book of the Bible I read after I became a follower of Christ.  The things I read in the book of John called for my full allegiance.  I can relate to John.  Through the words of John I can relate to Jesus.  Through Jesus I can relate to eternal life.

Prayer

Lord, I will settle for nothing less today than eternal life in You.  I want to live eternal-type-life today, in just the way you personally revealed it.  I want to know more about eternal life.  I want to experience new dimensions of that rich, multi-faceted quality and quantity of existence.  Reveal yourself and your life to me today Lord, through the word, through nature, through relationships, through conversations, through mini and mega-miracles.  Open the eyes of my heart Lord.
